Keeping a gentle recovery diary after an operation

The weeks after surgery are slow and blurry. A small daily note keeps the shape of your recovery โ€” for you, and for your check-ups.

The weeks after an operation have a strange shape. The days blur together, progress comes in small uneven steps, and by the time someone asks how you're doing, it's genuinely hard to say whether this week is better than the last.

A small daily note holds onto that shape for you. Not a chart to optimise, and not a test to pass โ€” just a line or two, kept as you go, so the slow mend becomes something you can actually see.

What's worth keeping

Keep it light. How you felt, in your own words. What you've taken, and when. How you slept. One small thing you managed โ€” a short walk to the letterbox, a full night, a proper meal. And anything that gave you pause, written down so you can raise it rather than carry it.

On the hard days, looking back is the thing that shows you've moved at all.

Why it helps

Two reasons, mostly. The first is for your check-ups: when you see your surgeon, doctor or practitioner, you can show them the curve of the last fortnight instead of reconstructing it from a foggy memory. The second is quieter and just for you โ€” recovery rarely feels like progress while you're inside it, and a week of notes can gently prove that things are, in fact, mending.

Gently does it

There's no streak to keep and nothing to score. Some days you'll write a sentence; some days nothing, and that's fine too. The point is only to notice, not to push.

Follow the advice of your surgeon and your doctor or practitioner, and if something doesn't seem right as you heal, seek care rather than wait. Underweather is a place to keep a record โ€” not a diagnostic tool, and not a substitute for medical advice.

A calm companion for the slow weeks.

Note how you feel, what you've taken, and how the mend is going โ€” all on your device.
